At A Loss

At A Loss

In silence, we stood,

Seconds falling apart:

We took a lifetime, I felt,

Silent as we were,

Lost for words,

Lost in our own thoughts;

We seemed not to heed the world,

With all its glory, with all its misery;

Strangely, silence prevailed.

And we kept looking,

At each other, eye to eye,

Fearful to speak up,

Each not wanting to say it,

Neither wanting to hear it;

At length, as you turned back

I was in your eye, a solitary tear

It summed up all my fears :

All I now see is a blur

And I close mine eyes.
